How we started in 2020

Moment Energy was born in early 2020 inside a humble home garage in Surrey, BC. Co-founders Sumreen Rattan, Edward Chiang, Gabriel Soares, and Gurmesh Sidhu leveraged their expertise from building advanced electric race cars in Formula E competitions at Simon Fraser University, sparking the innovative idea of repurposing EV batteries into energy storage systems.

With a growing team of talented engineers, the company built and tested initial prototypes, secured vital seed funding, and launched its first project—demonstrating early validation and laying the groundwork for impactful partnerships.

Moment Energy Secures USD $15 Million Series A Funding to Build World’s First Second-Life Battery Gigafactory in the U.S.

Moment Energy announced the close of its US$15 million Series A funding round. The round was co-led by the Amazon Climate Pledge Fund and Voyager Ventures. This new investment will support Moment Energy’s plan to construct the world’s first gigafactory dedicated to repurposing electric vehicle (EV) batteries in the United States.
