Located on a remote island in BC, there is no access to electricity at this site's property. This project was deployed in May 2021, and has been operating successfully for months.
Moment Energy’s battery solution enabled our client to go completely off-grid and generate their own electricity using solar power. This pack is four times as large as the first project and provides valuable information on how Moment’s batteries perform in off-grid sites in a regular use case, and how it responds to different loads such as pumps, heaters, and household power loads.
Moment Energy’s first pilot was in the remarkable Canadian Hydrokinetic Turbine Test Center. This project was launched in August 2020, and has shown us how capable second-life batteries are.
Moment Energy’s battery is cycled there up to five times a day, giving us real-world data on intense battery-use conditions and accelerating testing time. Our energy storage system is able to charge off of many different sources including a hydrokinetic turbine, generator, the grid and solar. Tested out in a microgrid, we were able to demonstrate how our batteries can easily integrate with different technologies.
Moment’s client chose to take their house off-grid and rely on their own energy. After challenges working with lead acid batteries that are unreliable and require lots of maintenance, they decided it was time to try new technology.
Working with utilities can make it difficult to run power at a site even if it is close to town. To our client’s pleasant surprise, they discovered that Moment Energy’s reliable and affordable solution had greater positive environmental impact when compared to other battery systems. Moment’s batteries were easily integrated with our client’s existing hardware.
“The installation, testing and ongoing support for our new energy storage system was amazing and the team is committed to ensuring the system meets our needs and interfaces well with our connected solar devices and back up generator.”
