VANCOUVER, BC — August 25, 2025 — Moment Energy announced it has secured federal funding from PacifiCan to expand production of battery energy storage systems in Canada, increasing capacity to serve a growing demand of over 5.6 GWh across North America with safe, reliable, and affordable battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Moment Energy has secured over $4.9 million to expand production of BESS built from repurposed EV batteries. Moment Energy’s systems strengthen grid resilience and stability, cut energy costs for commercial and industrial sites, and can be deployed fast, adding capacity for power-hungry loads like data centres and enabling safe, EV fast charging without waiting years for transformer or line upgrades.

Moment Energy is at the forefront of a new industry in North America, showcasing Canadians as the global leader in repurposing EV batteries. By extending the useful life of automotive battery modules and packs with an average state-of-health above 80% by an additional 10–15 years, the company significantly reduces the need for new battery production and keeps critical minerals within North America.

As the first company in North America to be certified by UL Solutions to UL 1974 for EV-battery repurposing, its grid-ready systems meet the stringent safety standards expected by authorities for interconnection. These certifications collectively establish Moment Energy's battery technology among the safest, most affordable, and most scalable options available on the market.

“British Columbia is home to a powerful ecosystem of innovators and entrepreneurs, including right here in Coquitlam. By investing in local businesses like Moment Energy, PacifiCan is helping entrepreneurs advance sustainable technologies, drive business growth and build a strong, resilient Canadian economy.”

— The Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan)

With this investment, Moment Energy will:

  • Scale Canadian manufacturing to deliver more grid-ready systems to customers across North America, feeding a growing demand of over 5.6 GWh across the continent.
  • Accelerate customer deployments that add power capacity quickly for AI data centres, EV charging, and critical infrastructure, avoiding long waits for grid upgrades.
  • Expand the local talent pool in advanced manufacturing, power electronics, and battery engineering, creating more jobs in Canada.
  • Advance testing and quality programs that follow the highest safety standards and help ensure reliable operation for commercial and industrial sites.

“This funding will accelerate our expansion across Canada, allowing us to scale as a homegrown battery energy storage manufacturer ready to power the future. Our systems can support the surge in AI data centres, quantum computers, and advanced EV charging, while ensuring critical infrastructure like airports and hospitals are powered. Just as importantly, we are investing in developing local talent so Canada can lead in clean, reliable energy solutions and remain competitive on the global stage.”

— Edward Chiang, CEO & Co-founder, Moment Energy
